Elmhurst’s Background Ventilation Assessment Training equips energy and retrofit professionals with the essential skills and knowledge to conduct Background Ventilation Tests for UK dwellings in line with PAS 2035. Upon completion, learners will also earn 10 hours of Continuing Professional Development (CPD).
This comprehensive two-day course combines theoretical knowledge with hands-on practical experience, ensuring that learners can safely and accurately perform Background Ventilation Tests. Learners will gain a thorough understanding of the requirements for Background Ventilation Testing under PAS 2035 and will be trained in the use of the necessary software for conducting these tests.
By the end of the course, delegates will be proficient in Background Ventilation Testing and capable of conducting assessments under both Pathways A and B of PAS 2035. Additionally, they will be equipped to provide alternative methods for meeting the requirements of Pathway C.

To make the most of your practical training day, it’s essential to complete the On-Demand Theory Training before attending. Please note: Failure to complete the theory modules in advance may result in forfeiting your place on the practical day.

Choose a date from the available options below. - Complete On Demand Theory Training (1 Day)
After booking, you’ll receive access to four theory modules, which must be completed before your practical day. A full module breakdown is available in the dropdown below. We expect that this part of the course will take 1 day to complete. - Attend Practical Day (1 Day)
Spend a day applying your knowledge through hands-on experience with pulse testing equipment. - Complete Competency Test
Upon successfully passing the competency test, you will be awarded a Certificate of Competency in Background Ventilation Assessment of Existing Buildings.
Should you wish to complete and lodge valid Background Ventilation Tests within the funded retrofit market (For the Energy Company Obligation etc), you will need to be a member with both Elmhurst’s AirTightness Scheme and the Insulation Assurance Authority (IAA).

This course is suitable for existing energy and retrofit professionals. However, the following prerequisites must be met before booking/attending this course:
- Possess ‘Basic IT Skills’ (As outlined below)
The theory training consists of 4 modules:
- Module 2 – An Introduction to Background Ventilation Testing
- Module 3 – The test equipment
- Module 4 – Ventilation
- Module 5 – The importance of measurement
At the end of each module, there will be a short test.
The practical day consists of 1-day on site, using the Blower Door or Pulse equipment. This also includes a practical competency test.
