External Wall Insulation: PAS 2030 Compliant Roofline Closure System Now Available

Share

A brand-new PAS 2035/2030 compliant roofline closure system is now available. This system can be used while installing External Wall Insulation (EWI) in properties and offers enhanced performance and durability.

External Wall Insulation

Background

Prior to the introduction of PAS 2030:2019, installers commonly used ‘verge trims’ to protect External Wall Insulation (EWI). However, verge trims were ineffective at preventing water ingress to the property, leading to property damage.

To address this, PAS 2030 stopped the use of verge trims. However, this change had significant implications for properties, particularly for those with insufficient roof overhang. In order to comply with PAS 2035, these properties were required to implement costly roofline extensions. This made EWI installation impractical in some cases.

PAS 2030 Compliant Roofline Closure System

A new PAS 2035/2030 compliant roofline closure system is now available, following extensive testing across the United Kingdom.

The new roofline closure systems offer enhanced performance and durability. Designed in accordance with PAS 2035/2030 standards, the new systems effectively address thermal bridging while reducing maintenance needs through a double layer of protection.

To ensure consistent quality, minimum material specifications and supporting design tools are also provided. Installers can access the standard details in the August 2024 update of the EWI Specification for Weathering and Thermal Bridge Control guide. For non-standard solutions, detailed design principles are available. A process map guides the selection of the appropriate approach. These resources will be accessible through system designers and relevant websites.

TrustMark, in collaboration with the Solid Wall Insulation Guarantee Agency (SWIGA), has developed comprehensive guidelines for incorporating roofline closure details into a quality assurance scheme. This ensures adherence to assessment, design, and installation standards to minimise failure risk. Other TrustMark-approved guarantee providers can also adopt this model.
