Boiler Upgrade Scheme (BUS)
The Boiler Upgrade Scheme (BUS) is a UK Government grant for people in England and Wales, running until 2025. Through the scheme, you could up to a £7,500 grant to cover part of the cost of replacing fossil fuel heating systems with a heat pump or biomass boiler.
MORE INFORMATION >Energy Company Obligation (ECO)
The Energy Company Obligation (ECO) Scheme is a government energy efficiency scheme that provides funding to low-income, fuel-poor and vulnerable households to heat their homes. The latest iteration, ECO4, launched in 2022 and will run until 31st March 2026.
ECO4 targets the least energy efficient homes in the UK, specifically those that have an Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) of D or lower. Through the scheme, these homes could receive heavily discounted or free home insulation, green heating systems or an upgraded boiler.
MORE INFORMATION >Great British Insulation Scheme (GBIS)
The Great British Insulation Scheme (GBIS) supports the worst performing households across Great Britain to make energy efficiency improvements. This includes low-income and vulnerable households, as well as those living in homes with an EPC rating of D or below and in Council Tax bands A-D in England, and A-E in Scotland and Wales.
The scheme works by obligating energy suppliers to help customers reduce their heating bills through the installation of energy efficiency measures, with the cost of the measures partially or fully subsidised.
MORE INFORMATION >Home Upgrade Grant (HUG)
The Home Upgrade Grant (HUG) is a government funding scheme supporting Local Authorities to provide energy efficiency upgrades and clean heating systems to low-income households. Phase 2 of the scheme began in April 2023 and will run until March 2025.
With up to £700 million allocated, the scheme specifically targets the worst performing households that hold an EPC rating of D or lower, as well as those with no mains gas central heating in England.
MORE INFORMATION >Local Authority Delivery Scheme
The Local Authority Delivery (LAD) Scheme aims to improve the energy efficiency of low-income and low EPC rated homes across England. This includes those living in properties rated EPC E, F, and G.
With £500 million of funding available, councils and local authorities in England submit bids for funding to improve households in their area, with the key aim to reduce fuel poverty by phasing out the installation of high-carbon fossil fuel heating.
The LAD scheme has had 3 iterations. Phase 3 has been allocated £287 million with applications closing in March 2023.
MORE INFORMATION >Social Housing Decarbonisation Fund
The Social Housing Decarbonisation Fund (SHDF) provides funding to support social housing properties across England with an EPC rating of D or below. The key aim of the fund is to improve the energy performance of the properties, thereby reducing fuel bills and carbon emissions.
Wave 2.1 of the Social Housing Decarbonisation Fund closed to applications in November 2022 and runs from April 2023 to March 2025.
